✔️ How does Elagox 150mg Tablet work?

 Elagolix functions by binding to GnRH receptors in the pituitary gland. This binding suppresses the production of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), ultimately leading to a decrease in estrogen levels. Lower estrogen levels can help reduce the pain associated with endometriosis.

Elagolix is used to help treat pain caused by endometriosis, a condition where tissue that should line the uterus grows outside of the uterus, leading to lesions and pain. It works by reducing the production of estrogen, which encourages the growth of these lesions.

✔️ Pharmacology

Elagolix is an oral gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) receptor antagonist. It inhibits endogenous GnRH signaling by competitively binding to GnRH receptors in the pituitary gland, resulting in the suppression of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) production.

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Elagox 150mg Tablet

Adult Dose:

• The recommended starting dose is 150 mg orally once daily for up to 24 months.
• Dosage adjustments are required for patients with hepatic impairment.

Renal Dose:

• No dosage adjustment is required with any degree of renal impairment or end-stage renal disease, including dialysis.

It should be taken at approximately the same time each day, with or without food.

• Inform your doctor and pharmacist about any allergies to elagolix, other medications, or any ingredients in elagolix tablets.
• Let your doctor know if you are taking cyclosporine or gemfibrozil, as elagolix may interact with these medications.
• Provide a list of all prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, supplements, and herbal products you are using.
• Mention if you are taking medications like digoxin, ketoconazole, midazolam, rifampin, or rosuvastatin, as your doctor may need to adjust doses or monitor you for side effects.
• If you have osteoporosis, liver disease, a history of broken bones, depression, anxiety, or thoughts of self-harm, inform your doctor.
• If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, discuss this with your doctor. You should not take elagolix if you are pregnant.
• Be aware of potential changes in your mental health while taking elagolix, including symptoms like irritability, anxiety, depression, or thoughts of self-harm. Contact your doctor if you experience any of these.

Contraindicated in pregnancy, known osteoporosis, severe hepatic impairment, and when coadministered with strong organic anion transporting polypeptide (OATP) 1B1 inhibitors.

Pregnancy:

Elagolix is contraindicated in pregnant women. Drug exposure early in pregnancy may increase the risk of early pregnancy loss.

• Effective nonhormonal contraception should be used during treatment with elagolix.

Lactation:

• There is limited information available about elagolix in breastfeeding, so it's important to consider the potential risks and benefits when deciding whether to breastfeed while taking this medication.

• Elagolix may reduce menstrual bleeding, making it important to perform pregnancy testing if pregnancy is suspected.
• It can cause dose-dependent elevations in ALT, so the lowest effective dose should be used.
• Suicidal behavior and mood disorders have been reported, and patients with depressive symptoms should be evaluated and monitored.
